This 1 Thing Single Handedly Ruined Our Entrepreneurial Spirit

(TLDR & free gifts in the bottom, don’t miss it!)

Did you go school? Or are you still in school as of today?

If you have gone to any school of any kind you would be familiar with the concept of “final exams” at the end of your semester or school year.

The design and concept of an exam that almost dictates or at least can wildly swing the entire semester of grades you’ve collected is absolutely detrimental to your entrepreneurial spirit.

Do you ever tell yourself that you’re going to start a project, be it learning a new skill, start a YouTube channel, something challenging.

Then you find yourself constantly putting it off.

OR, maybe you’ll learn how to build a website, but after a while of learning, when it comes time to actually build one you just give yourself some excuses and shy away.

Let’s take creating a YouTube Channel as an example because I want to speak from my own experience.

I’m sure more than many of us here had contemplated on making a YouTube channel at one point or another.

But how many of us actually did?

There are two groups of us.

The first group thinks about creating a YouTube, and then after a little while they say “nah” and then drop it forever.

Believe it or not, this is the smart group.

The second group (the one that I’m in) thinks about creating a YouTube channel, wanting it really bad.

But not bad enough to start, and bad enough to not want to drop it either.

So, there I was. Emotionally tormented for the past 6 months at least.

I’ve watched and learned from countless other creators on how to build a channel.

And they all have a very common advice.

“Just start.”

It makes sense logically. I absolutely get it. But emotionally I just for some reason CAN’T.

I became a master of conjuring up excuses out of thin air.

I am the farthest thing from a perfectionist but for some reason, any little thing that didn’t go right, be it:

  • background

  • sound

  • video

  • content

Anything. If anything wasn’t perfect, I would immediately turn it into an excuse to not start.

Where the hell is this resistance coming from?

Then I suddenly realized.

It’s not just for YouTube channels.

Literally anything slightly challenging that I have to do outside of school that’s for myself, I find a way to postpone.

After hours of contemplation, thinking, and conversation with a new friend I met, I came to a conclusion.

Final exams.

Think about it.

You get 6 months to prepare for your final exam. The biggest thing you can ever encounter in your school life.

You get one shot, and all your hard work throughout the semester can be ruined by this single test if you don’t score well.

What would be your natural reaction?

Wanting to keep postponing until you feel absolutely ready and confident.

There’s a problem though, for me at least:

I will never feel 100% ready to not make a single mistake on any exam.

But that’s too bad because the exam date has been set and unless you get into some kind of car accident, you can’t avoid it.

Judgement day is forced upon you.

After 26 years of conditioning. Here I am today.

I see every project as a final exam, a judgement day, one moment and one shot to decide if I’m ever worthy.

In school exams, you go into the room with 100%, and every mistake you make, points are being taken away from you.

You don’t lose or gain anything if you’re perfect, but points are taken away from you when you make mistakes.

The opposite is true in real life.

You start from 0. And you try your best to build up to 100 by making mistakes.

Because every mistake you make is a new lesson that you can apply to your project, and start meaningfully stack your points up higher and higher everyday.

Logically speaking, for real life projects or goals, you should always start building and start making mistakes as soon as possible.

Whereas in school, “you better not start until you’re perfectly ready” mentality is being conditioned into us at every waking moment.

I hope I’m shedding some light into this “procrastination battle” that we’re all fighting against.

After knowing this condition in your mind, it should be easier to fight against it at this point.

If you’ve made it this far into the blog, I have an offer for you:

I will help you, 1 on 1 to start making videos IF you want to be helped.

If you want to go from 0 to 1 and from 1-5 videos, but you somehow can’t get yourself to do it. DM me anywhere, tell me you read this blog and want some help.

I will help you.

It’s free. I hate seeing people who want to succeed but can’t because of this grip that school had on all of us.

TLDR

  • Final exams in schools have conditioned us to eternally prepare before we take action

  • We are now conditioned to almost never take any meaningful action if there are no deadline enforcers because of fear of failure.

  • We should reject the mentality of needing to start with as little mistakes as we can (final exam mindset) and just start with minimal prep, then learn through mistakes along the way.
