If It's So Easy To Make Money As A Content Creator, Why Isn't Everyone Doing It? (The Hard Part That's Never Shown.)

I’ve been flirting with the idea of becoming a content creator, but I’ve never had an idea of where and how to start.
There are so many content creators out there, which gives an illusion of how easy it is to become one.
Most people think they can become one, but most people still don’t do it.
Judging from my experience it was both easy AND hard.
Easy because the barrier of entry is low.
All you need is an internet connection, some electronic devices that are wildly accessible now, and be conscious.
(Actually, sometimes you don’t even need to be conscious, I’ve seen people put of “video content” where they just stream themselves sleeping and people apparently enjoy watching others sleep).
Hard, because it’s such an open ended field, with unlimited freedom that people just simply do not know where to even start.
When you’re told to write essays and open ended questions at school, you’re actually creating content. But what’s different is that you’ve gone through public school where they “teach” you by always giving you prompts to write.
You don’t get to experience the real freedom of content creation. That inevitably makes us all conditioned to only be able to create when someone else demands something specific to be created from you.
Of course this isn’t even the only hard part there is to content creation. If you’ve already had started on this journey, you’ll understand me when I say this:
Being a content creator is hard because it takes lots and lots of guts, confidence, and new skills that are by no means trivial, such as:
Filming
Editing
Lots of planning
Learning all the software
Setting up technical gears
Talking to a camera (HARD)
Learning how to deal with negativity
Learning how to write in an engaging way (HARD)
Interacting with complete strangers all over the world (HARD)
Then, you also have to be (insanely disciplined):
Consistent in posting
Consistently showing up
Consistently wonder if you’re wasting your time, because in the beginning everything is moving extremely slowly
The hardest part in my opinion, were all the inner mental blocks that you have for yourself, about how others will judge you, how they’ll look at you, how they’ll all think you’re cringe and crazy.
Until you’re successful. Then suddenly you’re a genius.
Plus most of us already have other commitments, such as careers, school, family, health issues, etc. It’s not easy to make time for things you don’t see a return of investment right away.
If you’re thinking about becoming a content creator but my message so far is discouraging you. Don’t let it.
After all, we’ll always be busy, so wouldn’t it be better if we learn how to do all these things while we’re busy, instead of only doing them when all the conditions are perfect?
So that when something comes up (and something always comes up) to spoil our plans, we will still be able to keep at it.
And that was just the content creation part.
Once you’ve started there, you’ll come to find out that just “making content” still wouldn’t cut it. It takes a significant effort to start getting paid through YouTube ad sense even.
YouTube ad sense is only a small fraction of what people are getting paid anyways. Most of the richer YouTubers will leverage and monetize their influence through a complete new set of skills:
Sales
Offer creation
Presentation
Making connections with others
Direct messages
Setting up LLCs and other banking details
Product creations
Affiliating
And much much more.
Thus many people have tried, and many people have failed.
Moral of the story is, if you’re looking for an easy way out, this isn’t it. However, this truly would be a way out.
Only through learning and applying these skills would be able to set yourself free as a “one person online business owner”.
My point of today’s issue is to hopefully convince you that
1, this isn’t an easy way to make money.
2, it’s not a short cut. Its a real commitment.
3, If you’re going to dive into this side of the world I don’t want you to have false expectations.
Many people tried so it looks like everyone is a content creator, but in reality only a small percentage of content creators are making good money.
We happen to fixate our eyes also on the ones who do make money which then creates this illusion of easy money.
Hopefully I have shown you see the bigger picture for you (of course this isn’t even close to the full picture) before you decide if this route is right for you.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any more question or are interested in becoming a content creator but need some extra help or push.
