Content creation should be an investment, not a second job

How "one person online businesses" are actually ran and why you're not able to be as consistent as other big time creators

Not everyone gets to be a content creator.

A lot of things comes with creating content.

You need to learn to write a certain way, talk a certain way, share a certain way.

Depending on the level of your commitment, there’s also a bunch of editing and distribution and repurposing even after creating.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just focus solely on the creation process and not have to worry about anything else?

People quit content creation all the time not because they don’t have ideas, or they don’t know what to talk about anymore.

Sometimes it’s the opposite.

Too many ideas to talk about, but too little time to edit and post.

Especially if you already have a full time job and want to be a YouTube for any reason.

If you’re not careful with your strategies, you’re essentially just picking up a second job that doesn’t pay you anything.

I keep telling my fellow creators this:

It takes 10 hours to finish editing a 10 minute video.

It takes 150 bucks on Fiverr and Upwork to make a 10 minute video

I understand it’s hard to shell out money in the beginning.

You want to pinch every penny and feel like as an online business owner and personal brand you’re supposed to be doing everything yourself.

But a real business always delegates.

A good personal brand is smart with their time. They know their unfair advantage is their personality, not the editing process.

Plus, if your full time job pays you more than 15 dollars an hour, you’re not really losing anything.

My friend makes 48 dollars an hour at his full time job as an mechanical engineer.

When he decides to spend 10 hours making a 10 minute video instead of just paying 150 for someone else to make it

He’s essentially made the worst choice out of the 3.

He could’ve just worked 10 more hours at his job and make 480 more dollars, and use 150 from the 480 to hire an editor.

By choosing to edit himself he’s lost 330 dollars per video.

He could’ve spend 150 dollars and still not work at his job, but spend those 10 hours on improving the quality and substances of his strongest asset, which is his content.

But no.

He chose to lose 330 dollars AND not improve the quality of his content.

All because he wanted to “save” 150 dollars.

That’s why I said content creation is not for everyone.

Some people just can’t see past that.

I was people.

You’re treating your content creation hustle as a second job.

Turn it into an investment. Run it like a real business, figure out which part of the business doesn’t need your presence, get someone else to work on those parts and double down on what matters.

That’s the difference between the burnout creators and the ones that are able to stay afloat long enough to hit it big and become that overnight success.

That’s how you can be a completely normal person but have others see you as if you’re some kind of motivated genius that’s able to keep up with content creation for years to come.

They call the content creation process a “one person online business”

But that just means everyone will see only one person in your business. No one sees anyone from behind the scenes.

Don’t be fooled by other content creators. They all have a team, and their teams all kick ass.

Of course you’re no going to be able to compete with them.

Not only do you not have a team, you’re not able to improve the quality of your content and you’re constantly working 2 jobs in which one of them doesn’t even pay you.

It’s a grind to the death if you refuse to grasp this concept of turning your creator journey from a job into an investment.

Otherwise, keep on keeping soldier. I salute you for making it this far down the road.

I am sincerely rooting for all of you.

Take care.
