You Need Focus (Not The Typical Type Of Focus)
1 Product/Service, 1 Customer Avatar, 1 Channel,
(TLDR & free gifts in the bottom, don’t miss it!)
We need more focus to get from 0 to however many “k” a month that is your goal.
And the kind of focus I’m going to talk about is probably not the type of focus you’re thinking of.
If you want to build your own businesses to escape the rat race and haven’t heard of Alex Hormozi, you’re in big trouble.
With that out of the way, today’s article is dedicated to an eye opening idea I learned from him and will be implementing myself.
We need more focus, not in a sense of caffeinating yourself to the max and drill into your projects like there’s no tomorrow.
Don’t get me wrong, that’s still pretty useful and often times needed. But the focus here is that you need to make sure you’re drilling away at the right projects.
Focus in a sense that you’re only picking 1 thing to do.
One of the many mistakes that beginner solopreneurs make (I absolutely made this mistake myself) is that we either
1) tend to spread ourselves way too thin, or
2) have too many directions that we want to go in, and end up not being able to pursuit any of them properly.
The goal of this blog today is to pull you back and give you some clarity on what you should be focusing on, and disregard the rest (at least for now).
And trust me, that 1 thing you decide to focus on, will be more than plenty.
For example, I am going to focus on 1 service, which is building websites.
Not only do I need to learn how to build websites, I will also need to learn how to sell, how to prospect, how to market, etc.
The good news is that once you learn this “1 thing”, will turn you into a polymath in no time. You’ll have the still have a mammoth size of a skill stack when you come out of the tunnel.
Best part? The skills you acquire this way will not only compound but also be synergetic.
Imagine if I were to say:
“I’m going to run a content creation consulting business, also sell website building services, AND also sell video editing services”
(Fun fact. I did say that a while ago. My naïve brain was indecisive and thought it was a smart idea to say, “EH! why not all?”)
The problem with wanting to do all, means nothing will work out.
Imagine an athlete, who wants to be the best in playing basketball, and also football, AND also wrestling.
This athlete might be good at all of those sports, but will he ever become number 1 in any of them?
Problem with selling 3 kinds of services at once as a one person business who has no prior experience is insanely difficult to overcome.
Instead of learning just web design, and then dive straight into finding customers, all my time and energy is being burned out by learning video editing, and coaching business.
If you’re a gamer, it’s like spending all your skill points on these services, and 0 points in selling those skills.
That is a perfect plan to get you right back into a 9-5. You have the skills of a technician, but not the skills of an entrepreneur.
Pick 1 product or service.
My choice: Web development through Webflow.
Pick 1 type of ideal customer to sell to.
Personal websites for personal brands who sell online coaching services
Pick 1 channel to sell through (be it Twitter, cold calls, cold emails, Youtube, etc)
Twitter
That’s going to be my focus. What will be yours?
TLDR
Stop spreading yourself so thin, focus on 1 thing to sell, sell to 1 type of ideal customer, and sell it through 1 channel.
If you learn too many technician skills (aka web design, video editing, coaching) and not enough business skills (aka sales, copywriting, marketing, content creation)
you’ll get sent right back to a 9-5, because you’d have the skills to execute tasks but not the skills to bring people to buy from you.
Hopefully my personal experience and world view has some kind of positive influence over you. If you’re still not sure what’s right for you, don’t hesitate to reach out to me on any of my socials.
